Job Title
A Registered Nurse (RN) in MedSurg/Telemetry provides comprehensive nursing care to patients with a wide range of conditions.
Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment and Monitoring:
- Evaluate vital signs, heart rhythms, and overall condition.
- Monitor telemetry data for irregularities and notify the healthcare team if needed.
- Develop individualized care plans to promote recovery and wellness.
- Medication Administration and Management:
- Administer prescribed medications while ensuring proper dosing and timing.
- Monitor patients for side effects and report any issues to the physician or healthcare team.
- Provide pain management interventions based on patient response and comfort level.
- Telemetry and Cardiac Monitoring:
- Assess heart rate, rhythm, and cardiac health using telemetry units.
- Document and report irregularities to the medical team.
- Maintain and troubleshoot telemetry equipment for reliable patient monitoring.
- Wound Care and Post-Surgical Care:
- Provide post-operative care, including incision site monitoring and wound healing.
- Perform dressing changes and educate patients on post-surgical care instructions.
- Administer treatments to manage complications such as DVT, pressure ulcers, or infections.
- Patient Education:
- Educate patients on disease management, medication regimens, and lifestyle modifications.
- Offer guidance on managing chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease.
- Provide education on fall prevention, nutrition, activity restrictions, and discharge planning.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
- Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers to implement patient care plans.
- Participate in daily rounds to discuss patient progress and care needs.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide holistic care to patients.
- Emergency Response and Critical Care:
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies such as cardiac arrests or respiratory distress.
- Provide immediate interventions, including CPR or other life-saving measures.
- Manage acute changes in patient condition and escalate care as necessary.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient communications.
- Ensure patient information is up-to-date and readily available for other healthcare professionals.
- Report changes in patient condition or concerns to the healthcare provider.
- Infection Control and Safety:
- Follow infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections.
- Ensure patient safety by assessing for fall risks, managing medications safely, and preventing hospital-acquired infections.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Quality Improvement and Continuing Education:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
- Stay current with the latest nursing practices, technologies, and patient care protocols.
- Attend continuing education workshops and certification programs to maintain licensure and expertise.
This role requires 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
