Job Description

I am with an accounting search firm and I am working with a law firm in the area looking to hire a Controller. They offer great benefits (100% health care coverage for the employee and 50% for dependents), generous PTO, a flexible hybrid schedule, and there is room to grow as time goes on. The team has exceptional tenure and this role will have the autonomy to create processes while overseeing 1 employee. The Controller will be responsible for all aspects of the firm's accounting cycles, tax payments, and ensuring financial compliance and controls in the finance operations. This position plays a crucial role in offering strategic assistance to leadership through analysis and recommendations to advance the Firm's mission. Responsibilities include strategic financial planning, budget development and management, interpretation of financial data, formulation of pricing strategies, and implementation of cost-saving measures.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all financial transactions and accounting processes, including payables, receivables, cash flow management, invoicing, payroll, asset tracking, and monthly financial closeouts.
  • Maintain the general ledger by reviewing account fluctuations and completing monthly entries for each accounting cycle.
  • Collaborate with the firm's tax consultants to provide required financial data, ensuring timely submission of all federal and state tax filings and registrations.
  • Guarantee accurate and timely recording of financial transactions and journal entries in line with the firm's policies and GAAP standards.
  • Process and authorize staff payroll while ensuring proper reporting of taxes, benefits, and leave balances.
  • Approve payment disbursements by reviewing the Accounts Payable Aging Schedule.
  • Oversee client billing to ensure compliance with agreements and contracts, manage invoicing, and submit payments through various e-billing platforms.
  • Analyze outstanding balances on the accounts receivable schedule and coordinate collection efforts.
  • Conduct timely reviews and approvals of monthly bank reconciliations for all financial accounts.
  • Track and forecast cash flow to support financial planning.
  • Work alongside 401(k) plan administrators to verify census accuracy and maintain compliance with IRS regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 5-7 years of accounting experience, preferably in a law firm
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
