Job Summary
The School of Social Work at The University of SouthernMississippi (USM) invites applicants for two, full-time tenure-track AssistantProfessor positions, beginning August 2025. Both positions will serve theHattiesburg campus with teaching duties that may require travel to the GulfPark campus. In addition to teaching inthe BSW and MSW programs, faculty are expected to engage in an activeresearch/scholarship agenda and pursue external funding to support theirscholarship. Faculty are expected to participate in school, university,professional, and community service.

The School offers a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)and Master of Social Work (MSW). Both programs require field internships andare accredited by The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide instruction in both the BSW and MSW programs.
2. Maintain an active research/scholarship agenda.
3. Pursue external funding to support scholarly activities.
4. Engage in service to the school, university, community, and field of socialwork.
5. Mentor students in their academic, research, and service interests.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have earned a PhD or doctorate in SocialWork from an accredited college or university. ABD's nearing completion oftheir dissertation may be considered. Applicants must also have an MSW from aCSWE-accredited institution of higher education.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to be compassionate and empathetic while working with diverse populations.
• Knowledge of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics.
• Adaptability and persistence while working with University students.
• Ability to prepare and deliver presentations and lectures
• Maintain currency on relevant research, professional certifications, and continuing education.
• Demonstrate sensitivity, respect, and discretion when dealing with confidential matters.

Preferred Qualifications
Licensure at the LCSW or LMSW level.
Prior teaching experience.
An established record of scholarship.
