Visa Consulting & Analytics (VCA) is Visa's consulting division, serving Visa's clients (including card issuers, acquirers and merchants) and solving their strategic problems focused on improving performance and profitability.

Drawing on our expertise in strategy consulting, payments, data analytics, data modelling, marketing, operational and macroeconomics, VCA drives high impact and tangible financial results. Currently, the team has 800+ professionals (including consultants, data scientists and economists) globally with 1,350+ projects executed in 2022. Key focus areas of VCA this year are to drive Value-in-kind (VIK) revenue, include consulting VIK to displace cash incentives in every new or renewal client deals, and build a strong team of data scientists and consultants.

The incumbent will be part of the VCA geographic team cluster of Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia (IPVMC) markets, and will be responsible for advisory engagements with Visa's clients in this cluster. These are highly diversified geographies with clients at different levels of progress. You will be challenged to stretch your thinking, and innovation is always an edge to the work that we do.

What a Senior Manager Data Science will do and learn at Visa:

The Senior Manager Data Science will be a member of the Asia Pacific Data Science team and report to the Data Science Lead for Vietnam. The position will be based in Visa’s Vietnam office in Hanoi. However, project support may be needed for clients in Ho Chi Minh City as required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage and deliver analytics projects from conception to completion with actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Define detailed project scope and methodology, creating and executing on the framework with appropriate data mining techniques.
  • Lead business development discussions on data science solutions, understand and gather client requirements, and articulate clearly on solution frameworks.
  • Clearly communicate the findings and recommendations from analysis, drive deployment and implementation of analytics solutions, and track business value impact.
  • Independently develop and drive storyline with a clear 'so what' and logical flow of insights and recommended actions for clients.
  • Work with VisaNet (i.e., Visa’s transaction data), clients, and 3rd party data sources to create advanced data-driven solutions.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to innovate by using non-traditional data and new modelling techniques fit for purpose to the needs of our clients.
  • Engage with external clients, and manage internal and external stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD.

What you will need:

We are looking for a motivated, analytical-minded individual with a track record of using data science and analytics expertise to unlock business value. A successful candidate should have accumulated a variety of experience, be curious about the payments industry and application of data analytics, be results-driven, and client-centric.

  • Degree (Masters or higher would be an advantage) in a Quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Operational Research, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional work experience in banking, payments, or related industry.
  • Deep analytical expertise in applying statistical solutions to business problems.
  • Experience with extracting and aggregating data from large data sets using SQL, Hive, Spark, or other tools.
  • Experience in programming languages (Python and/or C or more), ML/DL tools, Scikit-learn, Tensorflow or PyTorch and proficiency in one or more statistical techniques: Neural Networks, Gradient Boosting, Linear & Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forests, Markov Chains, Support Vector Machines, Clustering, Principal Component Analysis, Factor analysis, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple and concurrent projects with diverse cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate solutions and solve business problems.
  • Strong internal team and external client stakeholder management with a collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible style able to work effectively in a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent presentation and storytelling skills, including strong oral and written capabilities.
  • In-market experience and knowledge of local language and culture alongside market regulations and industry trends.
  • Willingness to travel 30% or more.

What will also help:

  • Good understanding of payments and banking.
  • Experience in risk analytics is a plus.
  • Experience in working closely with the data science community.
