Summary of Role:

Title: Power BI Consultant

Duration: One Year with the potential to extend

Location: The work is expected to be done remotely.

Description of Project:

We are seeking one full-time resource to work on constructing PowerBI visualizations, transactional reports, automated extract files, and ad hoc reporting capabilities and migrate existing Tableau/Crystal reports to PowerBI. In addition, this individual will need to set up and configure the PowerBI Cloud service to support public and secure reports. Data sources will include a SQL-based data warehouse and the Microsoft Power Platform (DataVerse) environment. The individual will also perform end-user training/mentoring.

At a high level, the resource will:

1. Write Power BI pagination reports and dashboards
2. Create Power Flows for report automation activities
3. Work with Dynamics developers to integrate reports into Iframes
4. Work with legacy report logic and convert it into Power BI

Responsibilities:

1. Design a stable, reliable, and effective PowerBI Service environment for public and secure reporting
2. Migrate legacy reports to PowerBI
3. Create new complex PowerBI custom UI visualizations according to specifications
4. Construct automation routines to export data to other mediums (e.g. Excel)
5. Liaise with developers to improve reporting functionality and establish best practices
6. Gather user requirements and identify new features
7. Develop technical and training manuals
8. Lead Power BI training, mentoring, and co-development with business area employees
9. Ensure all reports meet agency and performance requirements
10. Configure and establish best practice security and access management controls around reporting environment
11. Develop data refresh strategies sourcing from Azure SQL Server and other applicable data sources
12. Deliver daily Project Status Reports to clients tracking progress to milestones

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Three (3) years’ experience in PowerBI development and administration roles
2. A Master’s degree substitutes for three years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree substitutes for two years, or an Associate’s degree substitutes for one year
3. Two (2) engagements lasting more than six (6) months in PowerBI Development role

Desired Skills:

1. Proven work experience as a PowerBI developer
2. In-depth understanding of the PowerBI environment (e.g. permissions, recovery, security and monitoring)
3. Knowledge of data warehouses and Azure SQL Server
4. Advanced experience with the SQL programming language
5. Familiarity with creating custom DAX expressions/functions
6. Excellent analytical and organization skills
7. Ability to understand front-end users requirements and a problem-solving attitude
8. Experience migrating Crystal reports to PowerBI
