Job Description
Title: Machining Manager

Position Summary: The Machining Manager is responsible to oversee all machine shop personnel, and work to meet the company's expectations for safety, adherence to quality standards, and ensure parts are manufactured according to the requirements of the production schedule in a cost-effective manner. This position supports team leaders to effectively and efficiently perform the functions of their jobs. Their goal is to increase production and utilize the tools and machines we have to their fullest potential. The person is required to work well with others and demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills. Strong work ethics, integrity, and a willingness to learn and grow within the company are also an important part of employment with Idaho Steel Products.

  • Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas of machine shop production. Work continuously to improve in all areas.
  • Continue to improve managerial abilities in or to increase the teams' skills and capabilities.
  • Monitor all expenses incurred by the machining groups. Plan and oversee budgets for machining groups.
  • Assist Director of Operations and the Production Manager with managing the production schedule and review upcoming projects with group leaders on a regular basis. Hold/attend production meeting.
  • Stay current with new technologies and trends in the manufacturing industry and effectively communicate this to the Idaho Steel management team and Directors.
  • Secure tools, equipment, and employees for team leaders as needed to allow them to effectively perform their job tasks.
  • Monitor quality and efficiency of all equipment produced at Idaho Steel Products.
  • Maintain healthy relationships with neighboring community, customers, vendors, competitors, and co-workers.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the machining industry. Have product knowledge and ability to set-up, operate, and program equipment in the machining department.
  • Ability to accurately read and understand blue prints and their symbols and to apply them to the job at hand.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • A proficient understanding of the different metals that we work with.
  • Understand the safety policies of the shop and to follow the shop safety practices.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for a large percentage of the work day.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Repetitive motion (to include, but not limited to): sitting for long periods of time, working at a computer, and typing for long periods of time.
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment (safety glasses, work boots, gloves, etc.).
