Rockwood Company, LLC is a rapidly growing woman-owned small business change management consulting firm that delivers unrivaled value in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Our senior consultants are solution innovators who specialize in devising and implementing bold, yet practical solutions to complex problems. We work side-by-side with our clients to take on the most critical challenges our nation faces. Our goal is to enable a more innovative, collaborative, and effective government capable of successfully executing today's mission and anticipating tomorrow's evolving challenges and opportunities.

We bring human-centered design approaches to ensure our clients adopt and institutionalize sustainable change. Our core service offerings include strategy development and implementation, stakeholder alignment, customer experience, workforce readiness, strategic communications, and program management.

Rockwood provides a team-oriented learning environment that pushes our consultants to grow. Our team members own their own success and partner with leadership to achieve their professional development goals.

About the Position

Our Senior Consultant mentors, develops, and coaches our team members while shaping and leading projects, developing relationships with clients, and contributing to business development in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Manage one large project (with 5 or more people) or manage two small projects (with 1-3 people on each team) to completion, ensuring the effective execution of the project plan.
  • Guide project work through creative and diligent project planning, crafting project approaches, assigning roles and responsibilities, monitoring success and managing risks, discussing needs and options with clients, etc.
  • Efficiently design, develop, and produce high-quality deliverables using proven methodologies and frameworks.
  • Lead data-gathering efforts (i.e., interviews, surveys, or other quantitative and qualitative data collection/analysis) and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Design, facilitate, and manage client strategy sessions.
  • Conduct outstanding analyses and write reports to synthesize the outputs of major interactions in concise documents.
  • Serve as lead subject matter expert during the development of proposals, which includes writing content and advising on approaches.
  • Develop relationships with clients and stakeholders to support the project outcomes and inform follow-on work or new work opportunities.
  • Identify future needs of existing clients (beyond current project outcomes) and work with Rockwood leadership to develop approaches for securing work.

In addition to consulting work, Rockwood provides a unique experience where our team members also contribute to the growth of the business. For example, Senior Consultants may:
  • Support the development of Rockwood's social media and marketing materials to improve the Rockwood brand.
  • Lead at least one major business activity in support of developing the Rockwood business.
  • Develop and deliver Rockwood's internal training classes to grow the Rockwood capabilities.
  • Own one of Rockwood's consulting methodologies and provide coaching and mentoring to the Rockwood team (as the resident Rockwood subject matter expert).
  • Support recruitment activities to attract, evaluate, and bring onboard the best talent.

  • Have an active Top Secret DoD clearance (will consider DoS and DoJ clearances)
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience and 6+ years as an external management consultant
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience leading change management projects; prior experience leading strategy development, organizational design, and workforce readiness alignment sessions
  • Experience developing team members into exceptional consultants, teaching basic consulting frameworks and providing hands-on coaching and continuous feedback
  • Strong project management skills and ability to coordinate multiple engagements simultaneously and prioritize demands
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking with an innate ability to solve complex problems creatively
  • Client/customer focus with outstanding organization skills and attention to detail
  • Strong leadership with the willingness and ability to directly contribute to the creation of client deliverables, not just advise
