Summary of Position:
Our client seeks an experienced Project Director to lead their expansion into the Calgary market. This role is unique, encompassing not only the management of architectural projects but also the responsibilities of establishing a new office location, hiring a team, building client relationships, and driving local business development. This position is ideal for someone ready to take ownership of Calgary-based projects and spearhead the firm’s growth in the region. Role Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the strategic plan for launching and growing the Calgary office, including securing office space and leading initial hiring efforts.
Lead architectural project teams to deliver high-quality design solutions that align with client goals, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as the primary point of contact and ensuring client satisfaction from project inception to completion.
Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans to meet delivery deadlines and financial targets.
Coordinate closely with internal and external teams, including clients, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies, to drive project progress.
Oversee the preparation and review of architectural drawings, specifications, and contract documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Identify and mitigate project risks proactively to minimize impacts on timelines and budgets.
Mentor and guide junior staff, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high standards in project execution.
Represent the firm at client meetings, industry events, and networking opportunities, positioning the firm as a trusted partner in Calgary.
Work closely with the partners to establish a brand presence in Calgary, including local business development initiatives and networking.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or related field
Professional Alberta Architectural license required (AAA)
10+ years of experience in architectural project management with a portfolio of successful commercial and industrial projects such as distribution centres, car dealerships, warehouses, etc. with a high level of design quality.
Strong local market network in Calgary and proven experience in business development and client relationship management
Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to team and client interactions
Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and project management tools such as Microsoft Project
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail
Comprehensive knowledge of Alberta building codes, zoning regulations, and industry standards
Experience in establishing and growing a team or office location is a plus
