Job Description

DUTIES: Under the supervision of the PPS Director and guidance of the Behavior Specialist, the teaching assistant provides immediate and/or short-term need for extra support for students with behavior challenges school-wide. Monitors behavior and coaches coping skills so students can reintegrate with their classes successfully. Support the students as outlined in the Behavioral Support Plan and Individual Education Plan (IEP). Use prompts for the student as outlined in the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) or instructed by the Behavioral Specialist. Assist staff with behavior needs during transition to and from activities. Tally students' behavior for data entry in BIP. Work closely with the Behavioral Specialist and Adjustment Teachers to reinforce appropriate social skills with staff and peers. Also, work with students on affect regulation as need to promote coping skills. Participate in multi-discipline behavior review meetings and occasionally IEP meetings to review students' progress.

The California School for the Deaf, Fremont CSDF) is one of 6 State Special Schools under the Department of Education. Located on a 96-acre campus shared with the California School for the Blind, and the Diagnostic Center, North, we are a short walk from BART and have free employee parking.
