Health Care Technician I's (HCT I) support people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) that may have complex behavioral challenges and/or medical conditions whose clinical treatment needs exceed the level of care available in the community. As a HCT you'll have the opportunity to take people on outings to various places in the community, teach people recreational skills, and support people with completing Activities of Daily Living (ADL's).
As a HCT at Murdoch Developmental Center, we care about your future; therefore, there are many opportunities for advancement for people looking for career and financial growth opportunities. Examples for advancement include: HCT II, Healthcare Shift Supervisor, Preceptor, Staff Development Specialist, Community Employment Specialist and more. In addition, when available if you're interested in a degree in nursing as an LPN or RN, after completing one year of service as a HCT you may be eligible for Extended Academic Leave (EAL). If eligible and granted, Murdoch would provide you with 8 hours of paid leave to participate in a part-time nursing program and 16 hours for a full-time program.
HCT's have every other weekend off. Murdoch provides several different shifts to choose from; regardless of the shift, you'll have two leave days per week; therefore, when applying you can choose the shift that works best for you. Murdoch serves individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive and functional abilities. You will receive on-line and classroom training to teach: First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), CPR, Body Mechanics and lifting and specially developed training for working with intellectually disabled persons. In addition, you will receive unit-based training by an assigned mentor. Again, we will provide you with all the training that you'll need to be successful as a HCT. You must have the ability to pass a physical requirements test.
This position DOES NOT require NA I certification. High school or General Educational Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Condition for Continued Employment: As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus** Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements: A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
