The Safety Specialist is responsible for managing and monitoring safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Supports the Corporate Safety Department by facilitating inspections to identify unsafe conditions and training for proactive safety measures. Functions of the Position:
- Completes daily facility walk-through of all buildings to identify safety concerns and conduct compliance required audits. Stocks first aid kits for facility and maintains first aid log.
- Coordinates with Corporate Safety team on all issues that require immediate attention.
- Performs initial and reoccurring forklift training. (Classroom and proficiency testing)
- Maintains safety communication boards and postings. Prepares written reports and metrics for the Corporate Safety Department. Responsible for SDSOnline site and chemical updates.
- Conducts safety trainings. Champions site corporate safety programs.
- Aids supervisors/managers in accident/incident investigations and assists with completion of all required documentation.
- Manages the safety committee and all related activities.
- Maintains local safety training documentation including safety training, monthly safety meetings, and monthly safety committee minutes. Coordinates quarterly facility inspections.
- Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following good manufacturing practices, allergen controls, food defense, HACCP, SQF, and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to your manager.
- Responsible for partnering with others, sharing knowledge, skills and information within assigned team and across functional areas.
- Responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.
Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Safety or Behavioral based leadership preferred.
- Two years of experience in safety or related discipline
- Experience in training safety programs and preventing unsafe conditions and acts.
- Some knowledge of OSHA regulations preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
- OSHA 30 preferred
- Certified Safety Professional preferred
- Associate Safety Professional preferred
Skills and Competencies:
- Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management as well as hourly employees.
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
