Job Description

Plant Operations Manager is responsible for managing the operational and fiscal activities of plant operations and maintenance. They establish plant policies and procedures, oversee plant production goals, and foster a well-trained and motivated staff. Additionally, they plan and develop systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the plant. The Plant Operations Manager supervises staff, including hiring, training, and coaching employees.


Plant Operations Manager Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all EHS aspects, including adherence to company standards, legal reporting, and ISO 14001 programs.
  • Advising on all engineering aspects of equipment and improvement, including capital projects and future planning.
  • Managing the operational and fiscal activities of the department, including staffing levels, budgets, and financial goals.
  • Directing and coordinating plant operations within company policies and procedures. Accountable for meeting productivity and quality goals for the plant.
  • Overseeing on-site logistics coordination for incoming and outgoing loads.
  • Managing all financial aspects, including cost and capital projects, and setting up and reviewing all allocations and methodologies.
  • Establishing and directing plant policies and procedures.
  • Conferencing with department heads to ensure coordination of purchasing, production, and shipping.
  • Selecting and training plant supervisory and administrative staff. Coaching and providing career development advice to staff.
  • Scheduling and conducting plant meetings.
  • Planning and developing systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the plant.
  • Analyzing and documenting processes and problems and developing solutions to enhance efficiency.
  • Coordinating and implementing solutions from process analysis and general department projects.
  • Directing staff in the development, analysis, and preparation of reports.
  • Establishing employee goals and conducting employee performance reviews.


Plant Operations Manager Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, material science, or a related field is preferred.
  • 7-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing, process engineering, and capital projects.
  • Knowledge of production and processing, mechanical systems, administration and management, engineering and technology, lean manufacturing, manpower utilization, Microsoft Office, and JDE.
  • Strong leadership skills in training and accountability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Active listening, speaking, coordination, critical thinking, and management of personnel resources.
  • Problem-solving and complex analysis skills, including statistical aptitude.
