Position: Contract Litigation Attorney (Overflow Support)
Location: In-person or Hybrid
Compensation: $75/hr
Duration: 6 months
We are working with a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing accessibility and disability rights that is seeking an experienced Contract Litigation Attorney to assist with an overflow of federal litigation cases. This role involves working closely with the Legal Director, who will remain the lead counsel, to support ongoing and upcoming cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Legal Director on complex litigation cases related to Program Accessibility , including claims of benefits termination for individuals with mental disabilities under Section 504/ADA regulations.
- Manage heavy litigation tasks, including e-filing, preparing case documents, and utilizing PACER.
- Handle a current active court case and prepare for the refiling of another case recently dismissed without prejudice.
- Conduct thorough legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and other court filings as needed.
- Ensure compliance with federal court procedures and deadlines.
Key Requirements:
- 5+ years of federal litigation experience, with a focus on civil rights, disability law, or related areas – flexible!
- Must be barred in California and possess strong knowledge of federal e-filing procedures and PACER.
- Extensive experience working in Section 504/ADA litigation is highly preferred.
- Ability to handle a fast-paced, heavy caseload with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. This role does not involve ghostwriting; you will work under the supervision of the Legal Director while leading aspects of case management.
