About the Role:
As a Bioinformatics Principal Scientist on our Computational Biology team, you will advance our genetic medicine technologies, enabling the discovery and development of new therapeutics. Working with a diverse team of cell biologists, protein and RNA engineers, computational scientists, molecular biologists, and translational biologists, you will:
• Be an effective leader and translator when discussing analytical methods, genomics, data science, and software with colleagues from diverse scientific backgrounds
• Develop computational pipelines, tools, visualizations, and statistical methods to advance Tornado’s gene editing programs
• Serve as a resource and thought leader within Tornado at the intersection of protein engineering, computational modeling, experimental design, and software development.
• Support end users across a spectrum of computational abilities, from bioinformatics scientists to colleagues without any scripting or computational experience
• Integrate standard bioinformatics and laboratory information management (LIMS) tools when appropriate and contribute to custom software solutions when necessary
• Oversee the configuration and maintenance of local and cloud IT infrastructure, including dedicated environments for computational biology, modeling, and software development.
• Remain focused on the creation of viable therapeutic products that change the lives of patients
Requirements:
• PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Bioengineering, or related fields.
• Eight years’ experience driving the development of analytical methods and analyses in an industry setting
• Demonstrated experience with Python, JavaScript, Linux, SQL, R, and related software components
• A solid understanding of data science best practices and tools, including NumPy, SciPy, and related
• Exposure to the software development through an agile process of assessing end user needs and prototyping
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience developing computational pipelines for genomic applications
• Experience with NGS sequencing, long read sequencing, RNA-Seq, and related assays
• Exposure to LIMS development and configuration in a biotechnology setting
• Experience supporting laboratory automation system
