Job Description Arcadis Global Architecture & Urbanism Division combines the expertise of IBI’s Buildings and Placemaking practice, our Places’ capabilities, and CRTKL’s multi-sector design leadership to offer a diverse range of solutions focusing on human-centric design, sustainability, and technology.
Arcadis is looking for a talented Senior Urban Designer to join us full-time at our Placemaking Studio in Ottawa. As our Senior Urban Designer, you will also work with senior leadership to grow the Placemaking practice in Ottawa. As a leader and mentor to junior team members, you will be instrumental in the design and implementation of a diverse range of projects ranging from neighborhood master plans, smart cities, urban design, TOD, transit planning, streetscape design, parks, residential development, resorts amongst others for public and private sector clients. You will also collaborate with our Toronto team of urban designers, landscape architects and planning professionals on local and international projects of various scales.
As part of the Placemaking team, you will be immersed in a fast-paced dynamic environment creating contemporary, inclusive, responsive, sustainable public and private high-quality spaces. You will be involved in all phases of the project from the master planning, consultation and conceptual design through to detailed design. You will surely thrive at Arcadis and expand your experience leading multi-disciplinary design teams and balancing innovation and design excellence with desirable outcomes for our clients and their communities.
Role Accountabilities:
Lead and collaborate with senior leadership through responding and developing the creative content for RFP responses, and supporting relevant marketing and business development initiatives.
Collaborate with and mentor Junior Urban Designers / Planners / Landscape Architects on a variety of private and public sector urban design, landscape architecture, master planning and planning projects.
Independently manage and lead multi-disciplinary teams and assist with project completion from initial proposal compilation to detailed design and report delivery.
Develop master plans, site plans, built form and massing for a variety of projects ranging in complexity, scope and context.
Prepare and present high-quality graphic presentations, detailed design schemes and reports.
Engage with and manage Clients/Stakeholders and ensuring deadlines and budgetary constraints are met for all projects.
Demonstrate strong verbal, written and graphic communication skills and ensure that a high level of professionalism and design excellence are upheld within each project.
Qualifications Qualifications & Experience:
University degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture or Planning.
10+ years of experience in Urban Design or related fields in a professional office, with proven experience leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
Demonstrated success working with public and private sector clients in Ottawa region. Previous experience working with public sector and IO as Clients will be an asset.
Professional registration with OALA or OAA or OPPI.
Inquisitive and self-motivated individual with strong leadership and organizational skills.
Multi-disciplinary interests in Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Transportation Planning, and Urban/Regional Planning including a strong awareness/understanding of current planning and design issues and trends.
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of assisting in the preparation of reports and developing design narratives.
Independent design capabilities to prepare site plan and master plan concepts.
Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp and 3D modelling skills for developing complex urban design concepts considered an asset.
Strong mentorship capabilities to guide and collaborate with junior designers and professionals.
Capacity to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment with a keen eye for detail/precision.
Capacity to uphold design excellence in challenging project timeframes and deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Suite InDesign.
Valid driver's license is considered an asset.
