Job Summary
The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for implementing and supporting the site EHS program, including safety and health training, policy enforcement, and recommending safety and sustainability improvements. This role is integral in driving the site recycling program and achieving world-class standards in manufacturing processes. The EHS Specialist will evaluate workplace conditions, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, and company standards.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Policy and Program Development : Assist in developing and maintaining EHS policies, procedures, and programs to drive EHS performance and reduce accident risks.
- Training and Coaching : Provide safety training, guidance, and coaching on EHS matters to plant personnel, promoting a proactive safety culture.
- Data Management : Use EHS data processes to track and report metrics such as injuries, illnesses, environmental impact, and risk assessments.
- Incident Analysis : Perform root-cause analysis on EHS incidents, including near-misses, and recommend preventive actions.
- Regulatory Compliance : Support activities to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations; coordinate action items and maintain necessary documentation.
- Team Coordination : Organize and lead health and safety committees to implement safety improvements and sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction and resource conservation.
- Emergency Response : Oversee the facility's emergency response team, ensuring proper training in emergency and spill response, disaster preparedness, and crisis management.
- Worker Safety Evaluation : Observe job activities and evaluate safety equipment usage, such as goggles, respirators, and harnesses, to promote safe practices.
- Risk Reduction : Develop and implement action plans to minimize worker injury rates and maintain a safe workplace environment.
- Metrics Tracking : Track and report EHS metrics, follow up on safety suggestions, and conduct ergonomic and risk assessments.
- Worker’s Compensation : Assist in the worker’s compensation program, manage return-to-work protocols, and oversee case management.
Qualifications
- Education : Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Industrial Safety, or a related technical field.
- Experience : 3-5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Skills : Strong computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access), excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Abilities : Ability to handle multiple priorities, use sound judgment, and effectively manage time.
