Position Summary:
The Construction Estimator is a critical role responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects. This position involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and other construction documents to determine the scope and requirements. The Construction Estimator collaborates with project teams, vendors, and subcontractors to gather necessary data and develop competitive bids. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and possesses strong negotiation skills to secure the best prices for materials and labor.
Responsibilities and Functions of the Job:
• Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Develop accurate unit cost and maintain project cost history.
• Attend project site pre-bid meetings, site tours, and post-bid interviews as required.
• Develop and submit competitive bids, ensuring all client requirements and specifications are met.
• Analyze project plans, specifications, and blueprints to determine scope and requirements.
• Prepare detailed and accurate job schedules.
• Source and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain the best prices and ensure timely delivery of materials.
• Interact with clients, architects, engineers and local jurisdictions to understand and incorporate project objectives, schedules, permits, costs, etc.
• Continually promote the company and look for future opportunities to grow the business.
Desired Skills and Experience:
• 4 Year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or 5+/- years of experience
• Knowledge of industry practices, procedures, and market trends
• Proficiency in estimating software and tools.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to focus on quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
• Dedicated, well organized, able to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) are preferred.
• Maintain professionalism when faced with aggressive deadlines.
• Excellent leadership, personable, communication, and written skills that can effectively manage others.
