Responsibilities Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for a Medical/Office Assistant. Under the direction of a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or the Clinic Manager, the Medical/Office Assistant, provides routine clinical and administrative support for the team and assigned patients. Essential Job Responsibilities: Preps patient charts which include utilizing Michigan automated Prescription System (MAPS) database where available. Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measures vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, and document all information in patient's chart. Assists physicians and/or NP/PA in exam room as needed. Distributes screening forms to patients as appropriate. Assist with toxicology screens as needed and required. Completes a medication review with the patient. Assists with completion of Medication Prior Authorizations. Administers ADHD testing and EKG'S as ordered and required. Conducts drug screens with patients as needed and required. Provides patients with instructions as instructed by physician or NP/PA. Monitors status of laboratory and other diagnostic tests ordered. Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filed and available in patients' medical records. Cleans and prepares exam rooms, ensuring adequate medical supplies, instruments and sterilization is completed as required. Takes telephone messages and makes sure that information is routed appropriately to Psychiatrist, Nurse Practitioner, House Supervisor, or Charge Nurse. Resolves telephone inquiries including communication with pharmacies and insurance companies as well as taking escalated patient calls. Assists in escorting patients to the hospital when needed. Provides administrative support to the clinic or units as needed. Provides backup to the Medication Management Clinic Receptionist and Clinic Lead as needed. When working inpatient, may provide support and assistance to Mental Health Technicians. As a trained delegate of the prescribing provider, the medical assist will gather samples per provider orders, log them out appropriately and present them to the provider for review before distributing the samples to the patient. As a trained delegate of the prescribing provider, the medical assistant may assist the manager or office coordinator with inventory control of sample medications including logging in new samples received after than have been checked by a provider, monthly review of expiration dates, and is an active participant in the weekly two person count and reconciliation of the inventory All other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent required. Medical Assistant certification preferred but not required. Previous work experience in providing support to psychiatric patients in an inpatient or outpatient setting highly preferred. CPR/First Aid Training. Knowledge of pharmaceuticals and demonstrated knowledge and competency related to Sample Medication Policies and Procedures.
