Vice President, Brand Strategy – HAMILTON HEALTH SCIENCES FOUNDATION
The Vice President, Brand Strategy will spearhead the development and implementation of a cohesive brand strategy, aligning with the overarching mission and values of the organization and its affiliated hospitals. This involves defining the brand’s positioning and messaging for both internal and external stakeholders, while differentiating Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation in the market to enhance its reputation and presence.
This new position will report to the CEO and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The Vice President, Brand Strategy will oversee the creation and maintenance of the brand identity, ensuring consistency across all communication channels and touchpoints, including responsibility for marketing materials and digital platforms. Collaboration with various teams within HHSF and HHS’s hospital network is crucial, as you lead efforts to align brand strategy with organizational goals and foster a donor-centric approach to enhance engagement and satisfaction.
Salary Range: $140,000 – $160,000

Working within this value system, the duties of the Vice President, Brand Strategy will include but not be limited to the description that follows.
Brand Strategy, Identity, and Expression:
Lead the development of a comprehensive brand strategy that unifies the mission, values, and unique strengths of HHSF, in alignment with the brand of Hamilton Health Sciences and the individual identities of each affiliated hospital, within a well-defined brand architecture.
Define and communicate the brand’s overarching positioning, messaging, and value proposition to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the organization’s collective vision and goals.
Develop strategies to harmonize and differentiate HHSF in the market, leveraging the strengths of the health system and each hospital to enhance the overall brand reputation and market presence.
Develop performance metrics, conduct market research, gather brand feedback, monitor and analyze the effectiveness of the brand strategy, modify and adjust to create further improvement in performance.
In collaboration with HHS’s corporate Communications and Public Affairs team, oversee the development and rollout of a new brand identity including a logo and a logo system, typography, color palette, imagery, and guidelines.
Ensure consistency and coherence in HHSF brand expression across all touchpoints, including marketing materials, signage, websites, and social media.
Champion a donor-centric approach to brand strategy, ensuring that the brand experience aligns with donor expectations and enhances their overall satisfaction and increase to fundraising revenue.
Identify opportunities to improve the donor journey and foster deeper engagement with HHS
Collaborate with HHSF departments to gather feedback and insights to inform brand strategy and initiatives.
Change Management:
Champion the execution of the developed brand strategy through successful change management strategies and collaboration across HHSF Team.
Assess organizational readiness for change, identifying potential barriers, and developing proactive strategies to mitigate resistance, and drive by-in across all levels.
Spearhead the development and implementation of a change management framework to facilitate the adoption of the new brand strategy throughout the Foundation
Develop and execute communication plans to articulate the rationale, objectives, and benefits of the new brand strategy, fostering understanding and engagement among internal and HHS stakeholders.
Communication and Marketing:
Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop integrated campaigns and initiatives that effectively communicate the brand’s message and values.
Develop and maintain HHSF website and affiliated pages
Oversee the development of content and creative assets that resonate with target audiences and reinforce brand positioning.
Develop and oversee a portfolio of content development including but not limited to graphic, video, and photography in collaboration with the marketing and communications team.
Ensure that brand messaging, and the brand tone of voice, are consistent and resonate with all audiences, including stakeholders, donors, potential donors, patients, caregivers, and clinical staff.
Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of brand communication efforts and adjust strategies as needed.
Cross-functional Leadership and Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with the Senior Leadership Team and cross-functional HHSF teams to foster a cohesive and synergistic environment, where collective efforts are directed towards HHSF’s unified vision and shared objectives.
Develop and build collaborative and beneficial relationships with internal and external colleagues and partners, specifically within HHS including clinical, operational, and administration departments; leveraging connections to enhance organizational effectiveness and drive fundraising and strategic initiatives
Serve as a brand ambassador within the organization, educating and inspiring staff to embody the HHSF brand values and deliver exceptional service.
Provide strategic insight and tactical support for all branding associated with Children’s Miracle Network/Canada’s Children’s Hospital Foundations (CMN/CCHF) in support of McMaster Children’s Hospital.
Provide leadership and coaching to a team; fostering a collaborative, motivational, and respectful environment, with a focus on skill development and continuous learning to maximize team effectiveness and growth
Develop and maintain a high functioning team and continually assess structure, allocation of responsibility, and process for optimal efficiency and workflow to achieve HHSF objectives.
Offer critical insight and strategic guidance to inform HHSF strategic, operational, culture, and human resource planning, aligning departmental efforts with boarder HHSF goals.
Provide critical support and insight to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of HHSF’s long-term strategic plan and annual operating plan
Develop and monitor the department’s annual operating budget, ensuring fiscal management, cost optimization, and resource allocation.
Actively participate in HHSF board meetings, senior leadership, and management meetings, providing valuable perspectives and support to inform decision-making and drive fundraising success.
Prepare and deliver a range of reports in support of the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders, ensuring transparency, clarity, and alignment with strategy.

Candidate Qualifications:
A University Degree or equivalent in a relevant field
Ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience, preferably within the not-for-profit or health sector.
Extensive marketing and communication experience, with in-depth knowledge of brand strategy development, positioning, and brand identity management.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and holistically, with a keen focus on both the big picture and tactical execution, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
Capacity to analyze complex situations, anticipate future trends, and conceptualize and implement plans to achieve desired outcomes and drive organizational success.
Proficiency in leveraging data analytics and insights to inform brand strategy, marketing, and communications initiatives, driving effective decision-making and optimizing outcomes.
Proven project management skills, with a track record of delivering on-time and on-budget deliverables.
Change management experience with implementing new brand strategy in a multifaceted, complex environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building capabilities within cross-functional structures, enabling effective engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders in support of shared objectives.
Proficient in employing persuasive communication techniques to influence stakeholders, build consensus, and achieve desired results, leveraging both written and oral communication channels effectively.
Skilled in resource management and prioritization, with the ability to effectively plan, coordinate, and allocate resources to drive departmental and program initiatives.
Office Location:
We operate onsite at HHSF’s head office located at 1 King St. West, Hamilton ON. Remote and Flex work may be accommodated after three months of employment based on approval of CEO.
Working Conditions and Mandatory Requirements:
Travel is required; the incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license and have use of a reliable vehicle as the position will visit various locations such as Hamilton Health Science sites, corporate partner locations, patient locations, and special events, etc.
The nature of the work is such that minimal evening and some weekend work is required to attend events where needed.
Health Check and proof of full COVID vaccination is mandatory for employment with Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation in accordance with Hamilton Health Sciences policy.
Salary Range:
The annual hiring range for this position is between $140,000-160,000, commensurate with experience. HHSF provides a competitive benefit package and pension plan (HOOPP).
