Director, Major Gifts – MACKENZIE HEALTH FOUNDATION

As communities served by Mackenzie Health continue to grow, we are expanding our team at the Foundation and are searching for an exceptional relationship manager to be the new Director, Major Gifts who will play a critical role in the advancement of our philanthropic goals.

Reporting to the Vice President of Philanthropy, the new Director will be results-oriented and drive excellence, leading strategy and meeting targets that support the highest priority needs of Mackenzie Health. The seasoned leader will build and lead a team focused on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors. The Director will take initiative and lead all aspects of the Major Gifts program and collaborate with colleagues across all other fundraising streams to effectively manage the donor pipeline.

Passionate about health care philanthropy and committed to the meaningful work we do, the new incumbent will promote a culture of philanthropy that supports the donor experience and grow relationships with donors that result in leadership, transformative gifts, and multi-year commitments.

Salary Range: $102,500 – $143,000

Responsibilities:

  • Work with senior leadership to establish strategies and plans for major and mid-level giving.
  • Establish and lead a high-performing team, providing leadership and guidance to direct reports focused on Major and Mid-level giving.
  • Develop, manage, and execute comprehensive donor strategies for the Major and Mid-level giving portfolios.
  • Lead the budget development and key performance indicators to meet annual revenue targets for the Major Gifts team.
  • Act as an Ambassador for Mackenzie Health Foundation in the community, including attending community events and activities to identify and cultivate relationships with donors and potential donors.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to embracing the diverse cultures in York Region, promoting inclusive behaviour, and representing Mackenzie Health with integrity and care.
  • Develop internal relationships with hospital and foundation staff, promote a culture of philanthropy, and develop robust donor proposals and stewardship plans.
  • Model and foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Work collaboratively across departments on shared objectives, fostering innovation and teamwork.

Fundraising and Donor Relations:

  • Identify, cultivate, and steward a personal portfolio of potential and existing major donors.
  • Collaborate internally on communications materials and assets for donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and recognition, including proposals, stewardship reports, annual reports, and newsletters.
  • Work closely with the Stewardship and Community Giving teams to develop and implement a stewardship framework for donor cultivation and moves management, and to facilitate the growth of the prospect pipeline.
  • Liaise with hospital staff and ensure collaborative relationships that support fundraising efforts.
  • Draft gift agreements aligned with secured proposals and ensure fulfillment of stewardship and recognition commitments.
  • Effectively track and report on fundraising performance and progress towards personal and team targets across the Major and Mid-level giving portfolios.
  • Provide detailed analysis of donor trends, regularly reviewing financial and statistical information.
  • Work with the finance team to prepare financial reports and analysis of donor trends.
  • Effectively leverage Raiser’s Edge donor database to track, evaluate and report on fundraising activities.
  • Monitor program revenues and expenses to ensure they remain within budget.
  • Maintain current knowledge of mid-level, major gift and foundation granting trends through networking, research, and professional development.

Required Competencies and Experience:

  • Proven history of developing Major Gift fundraising plans and strategies and meeting targets.
  • Experience securing gifts in the million-dollar range as well as multi-year gifts.
  • Demonstrated experience building, mentoring, coaching, and fostering innovation within high-performing teams.
  • Excellence in collaboration with the ability to generate innovative initiatives and solutions.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills and experience tailoring messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and a history of building trusting relationships with donors.
  • Experience working with data analytics to evaluate and guide planning for donor cultivation and stewardship to increase revenue.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the cultures represented in the York region, along with a commitment to inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
  • Team player with a demonstrated commitment to driving excellence.
  • Organized, attentive to detail and effective time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment requiring flexibility and adaptability to meet deadlines and targets.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge is considered an asset.
  • Passion for healthcare philanthropy would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a healthcare-related environment is considered an asset.
