Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and customer-focused Workers' Compensation Claims Handler to manage complex claims efficiently while ensuring excellent service and cost control. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of Illinois Workers' Compensation laws and have proven experience in lost-time claims handling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and process complex Workers' Compensation claims to assess exposure and liability.
- Handle a full caseload, including cases of increased severity, with well-developed action plans for timely resolution.
- Assign and manage reserves throughout the claim lifecycle.
- Calculate and issue benefits, make adjustments, and settle claims within authority levels.
- Prepare and submit required state filings within statutory deadlines.
- Coordinate vendor referrals for investigations or litigation management as needed.
- Utilize cost containment techniques, including strategic vendor partnerships, to manage overall claim expenses.
- Manage claim recoveries such as subrogation, Second Injury Fund excess recoveries, and Social Security/Medicare offsets.
- Report claims to excess carriers and ensure accurate documentation of claim files.
- Communicate claim activity and resolutions effectively with claimants and clients.
- Refer cases to supervisors or management when necessary.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven ability to handle complex Workers’ Compensation Lost Time claims.
- Proficiency in developing and executing action plans for cost-effective resolutions.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical and interpretive abilities to evaluate claims effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other PC applications.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with strategic vendor management and cost reduction strategies.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Required Experience:
- 3-5 years of Illinois Workers' Compensation claims management experience.
Education:
- College degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and 3-5 years of relevant Illinois claims experience.
- High school diploma with 3-5 years of related experience will be considered.
Additional Information:
- Initial onsite work is required for training.
- Hybrid work schedule may be considered after training is complete (date to be determined).
