Summary

The NAR/CNA is responsible for assisting the professional nurse in the delivery of care. Under the direction of the professional nursing staff, the NAR provides the personal care for assigned residents, patients or clients and is an integral part of the care planning, assessment and recordkeeping systems.
Job Duties for Long Term Care Unit
n
n- Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the resident population serviced in the Long Term Care facility.
n- Staff members must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth, development and aging from adolescence through the end of life, including death and dying.
n- Staff member must be able to assess and interpret data relating to the resident's status in order to identify the resident's age specific needs.
n- Assists with the needs and comfort of residents including hygiene, nutrition, activity and treatments in accordance with the policies and procedures of Mille Lacs Health System.
n- Observes residents and communicates changes and/or needs to the Team Leader.
n- Maintains a safe, clean environment for residents and staff by following infection control and safety policies and procedures.

Job Duties for Geriatric Mental Inpatient Unit
n
Patient Care Under direction of the Charge Nurse, the NAR will perform the following patient care activities:
Assist the assigned patients in activities of daily living. Routine Duties include, but are not limited to
n
n- Taking care of a resident's personal hygiene, including bed baths, shaving, nail care etc
n- Toileting residents and emptying catheter bags
n- Monitoring vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure
n- Setting up of meal trays, documenting food/fluid intake and feeding residents
n- Serving nutritional supplements
n- Making beds and keeping resident's space clean and tidy
n- Bringing the resident to the therapy area
n- Helping residents turn to prevent bedsores
n- Encouraging and assisting with ambulation
n
n
Observing residents
n
n- Assist patients in maintenance of their environment, as required.
n- Participate in planning and implementing daily activities for patients.
n- Monitor the patient attendance in Unit Activities for patients.
n- Interact with patients on a one-on-one basis in a therapeutic manner.
n- Report relevant patient information to the RN for evaluation, intervention and documentation.
n- Monitor the patient during the use of potentially hazardous equipment.
n- Assist in the admission process of the patient, which includes the inspection and proper care of patient's clothing and property.
n- Orient the patient to the Unit.
n- Assist as needed in occupational activities, recreational activities and patient community meetings.
n- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment staffing.
n- Monitor the safety of the therapeutic milieu.
n- Assist in the management of behaviors
n- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the patient population serviced in the Senior Care Unit. Must be able to comprehend and communicate basic concepts related to the process of mental health treatment. Each staff member must be able to assess and interpret data relating to the resident's status in order to identify the specific needs.

Required Education and Experience

n- High school diploma
n- Current Registration with the MN Board of Nursing as a Nursing Assistant (On Site Training Available)
