Job DescriptionnnThis position carries out those activities required to maintain and repair facilities throughout Alaska as well inspection and repair of machinery and equipment within assigned facilities.nnResponsibilitiesnnPerforms skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment including testing and replacing circuits, troubleshooting defective switches, receptacles, ballasts and other wiring.nnPerforms a variety of skilled building maintenance tasks including repairs to doors, windows, roofs, drywall, carpet, flooring and other building equipment and parts.nnConstructs and assemble furniture and other wood and metal structures.nnInstall and maintains lock systems.nnInstalls and services standard plumbing fixtures, piping and drains and supply lines.nnPaints, cleans and degreases as necessary walls, equipment and other surfaces.nnFraming & finish carpentry repairs.nnHanging Cabinets, fixtures, pictures, etc.nnDrywall installation/repairs and painting.nnCarpet/tile installation/repair.nnConcrete installation/repair.nnCleans work area, tools, and equipment.nnOperates a variety of equipment and machines including various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; maintains tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition.nnPurchases when necessary equipment and materials; operate light trucks to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.nnMay transport trash and waste to disposal area.nnOther duties required to maintain and operate commercial or industrial equipment and facilitiesnnWork will require use of ladders and high liftsnnWork will involve night or weekend worknnUpdates completed maintenance tasks and inputs data into a computer maintenance management system.nnPerform required administrative and documentation tasks.nnSnow removal and other laborer duties as assigned.nnPosition requires travel by aircraft up to 75% of the time. Some overnight travel is necessary.nnMust adhere to strict safety policies and standards.nnThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.nnOther duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.nnQualificationsnnA high school diploma or GED equivalent.nnAdvanced electrical knowledge required with at least 3 years of directly related work experience.nnValid Alaska Driver’s License with three (3) years acceptable driving record to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.nnWorking Conditions and Physical RequirementsnnWork is both indoors and outdoors. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and vibration.nnPhysical requirements:nnThe employee must be able and willing to fly in small aircraftnnThe employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and may occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.nnSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.nnThe employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and vibration.nnThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.nnCompetenciesnnLanguage skills sufficient to:nnRead and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.nnWrite routine reports and correspondence.nnMath skills sufficient to:nnAdd, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.nnReasoning abilities sufficient to:nnSolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizationnnExists.
