Join our team at Brockton Hospital and be better and stronger than ever.nnCT Technologist Roles and Responsibilities:nnDemonstrates competency in performing CT examinations on all ages of patients from newborn to geriatric. Ensures the use of adult/pediatric protocols on all exams.nnMust be able to communicate calmly, compassionately and professionally with all types of patients as well as associates.nnReviews radiology imaging requisition for required information to perform examinations. Calls appropriate personnel to review discrepancies.nnProperly identifies and prepares patients for examinations, answers questions and/or refers to other appropriate personnel.nnFollows HIPAA standards to maintain patient privacy and disclosure of protected patient information.nnRelies on knowledge of anatomy, physiology and effects of disease processes to properly and safely scan the patient to obtain high quality images.nnDemonstrates knowledge of proper shielding and radiation protection for all patients. Ensure that all patients of childbearing age are questioned accordingly and shielded if necessary. Documents the same.nnMay be called upon to suggest alternate more appropriate exams where radiation exposure can be reduced or eliminated.nnApplies ALARA principles to patient, self and other associates.nnUnderstands the Image Wisely and Image Gently programs and the importance of dose reduction opportunities for all patients. Includes the need to adjust protocols to fit individual patient criteria.nnObtains quality diagnostic images after appropriate orientation on the department CT scanners.nnPossesses and utilizes proper aseptic technique, universal protocol and Standard Precautions as needed.nnDemonstrates competency in preparing and administering oral and IV contrast media.nnUnderstands all policies related to administering IV contrast including contrast screening sheet, hydration protocols, treatment of extravasation, medication reconciliation, and premedication.nnParticipates in the training of new personnel in the operation of the CT scanner and other necessary related equipment.nnMaintains equipment in good working order through monitoring of preventative maintenance plan. After CT Supervisor approval, contacts repair service as necessary.nnFollows all PACS workflow procedures for quality, proper identification and completeness of examination requested.nnDemonstrates competency in all RIS applications. Especially pertaining to patient exam status, exam tracking and “taken” lists. Edit any/all examinations in RIS prior to radiologist dictation.nnCoordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift utilizing LEAN methodology.nnAssists in maintaining dept. inventory to ensure adequate supplies.nnRestocks un-used supplies to proper storage location after each examination. Utilizes and maintains the kanban system.nnActively participates in daily huddles and problem solving.nnAttends CT and Imaging department staff meetings and in service education programs.nnUpdates patients and families on estimated wait times in the CT Department. Remains visible and proactive in meeting patient’s needs.nnPerforms personal care for patients as needed.nnAssists patients to bathroom (ambulatory, with cane, crutches, or walker). Assists patients to dress or undress as indicated.nnContributes to other areas in the department and hospital as requested.
