Work performed in accordance with physician orders or protocols. Defined duties are performed in adult patient populations. This is an entry level position.nnLocationsnnStanford Health Care (Palo Alto, CA; onsite)nnWhat you will donn· Administration of aerosolized medications via hand held nebulizers (HHN), metered dose inhalers (MDI), dry powder inhalers (DPI), large volume continuous nebulizers, and intrapulmonary percussive ventilation (IPV);nn· Administration of medical gases via nasal cannulas, oxygen masks, high flow nasal cannulas, and large volume nebulizers;nn· Performing routine tracheostomy care and weaning;nn· Assembling and assuring safety and proper functioning of all equipment /supplies necessary for providing respiratory care;nn· Documentation of results, findings, and assessments in the patient’s electronic medical record;nn· Performing airway clearance using chest physiotherapy (CPT), vibratory positive expiratory pressure devices, cough assist device, or nontracheal suctioning;nn· Assessing pulmonary mechanics using portable spirometry devices;nn· Responding to cardiopulmonary arrests and rapid response calls;nn· Responds to calls and provides therapy to patients requiring emergency care for non-traumatic conditions;nn· Educating patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team about routine respiratory procedures, medications, modalities, and disease processes;nn· Providing continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or biphasic positive airway pressure (BiPAP) for patients who use such devices at home;nn· Providing invasive ventilation for medically stable patients who use such devices at home;nn· Performing arterial blood gas sampling and analysis;nn· Oversees and trains staff and community college students working on general medical floors.nnEducation Qualificationsnn· Completion of a 2-year American Medical Association (AMA) approved Respiratory Care Program; ornn· currently enrolled in an AMA RCPnnExperience Qualificationsnn· No previous respiratory care experience required.nnRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilitiesnn· Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver;nn· Ability to think critically, conduct analysis, formulate conclusions, and reflect on practice;nn· Ability to process equipment and utilize personal protective equipment to reduce risk of infection;nn· Understanding of commonly used medical terminology;nn· Knowledge of new technologies, changes in practice, or updates relating to respiratory care;nn· Knowledge of the principles of health, hospital, and clinic organization and administration;nn· Knowledge of the indications, contraindications, and hazards of respiratory therapies, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology related to the cardiopulmonary system;nn· Ability to provide superior customer service along with quality respiratory care to positively impact patient experience and outcomes.nnLicenses and Certificationsnn· BLS - Basic Life Support from the American Heart AssociationnnACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support from the American Heart Associationnn· RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in CA requirednnPhysical Demands and Work ConditionsnnBlood Borne Pathogensnn· Category III - Tasks that involve NO exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, and Category I tasks that are not a condition of employmentnnThese principles apply to ALL employees:nnSHC Commitment to Providing an Exceptional Patient & Family ExperiencennStanford Health Care sets a high standard for delivering value and an exceptional experience for our patients and families.
