Position Summary:
n
Academically, will direct and oversee all aspects of the Anesthesiologist Assistant Program, ensuring that the program fulfills its mission, goals, and objectives by performing the ascribed duties personally or through subordinate faculty and staff; complies with all accreditation standards and those established by the School of Medicine and the Department of Anesthesiology.

Position Key Accountabilities:
n

Performs quality anesthesia care services to surgical patients at Memorial Hermann Hospital and ASC.
n n- n
Acts as the liaison between the Anesthesiologist Assistant Program and the department, hospital staff, surgeons and Anesthesiologist Assistants.
n n- n
Coordinates and manages the monthly OR schedule, call schedule, and meeting/vacation/sick schedules of the Anesthesiologist Assistant Program program faculty
n n- n
Manages HR activities for direct reports regarding: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

Academic Responsibilities :
n
n- n
Manages all aspects of the educational program consulting with the Medical Director when appropriate.
n n- n
Provides leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range plans; gathers, interprets and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates program activities with other programs and departments as needed.
n n- n
Develops, implements and modifies curriculum. Recommends changes in curriculum, policy, and program requirements to the Dean and appropriate committee, as needed. Ensures that the educational curriculum is innovative and quality driven and (1) focused on student needs and requirements; (2) aligned with UT's priorities and in accord with the program's strategic objectives; and (3) effective, efficient and providing value for money.

Provides collaborative leadership and guidance to faculty and instructional staff in developing and delivering instructional programs.

Ensures that the program is in compliance with all policies, procedures, and accreditation standards as set forth by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs, the University of Texas, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and SACSCOC.

Responsible for all financial and fiscal management aspects of program operations. Prepares quarterly and annual financial statements, reports, special analyses, and information reports to review with the School of Medicine and Department of Anesthesiology.

Develops and directs the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems.
n n- n
Develops, implements, and monitors the program's marketing plan for recruiting new students.
n n- n
Teaches students in didactic and clinical setting.
n n- n
Collaborates with key stakeholders such as the Office of Educational Programs to ensure best practice on strategic implementation. Acts as a liaison between the MSA Program office and outside organizations, as well as other schools, committees, and task forces within the University.

Maintains standards of clinical performance in accordance to institutional objectives, professional standards of practice, regulatory, and accreditation agency standards.

Manages human resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

Performs other duties as assigned including clinical assignments

Certification/Skills:
n
Completion of an accredited program in Anesthesiologist Assistant, professional certification as an Anesthesiologist Assistant. Computer and technology literate using Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office applications, planning and communication technology, and the internet.
n
Minimum Education:
n
Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of a Commission Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited, two-year Anesthesia Assistant program.
n
Minimum Experience:
n
Three years of experience as an Anesthesiologist Assistant.
n
Physical Requirements:
n
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
n
