Position Summary: This position is responsible for operating carpentry equipment to assist in building parts of interior and exterior of ships, and shipyard buildings at our vast, 63-acre facility.
Detailed Description: - Follows directions under intermittent supervision.
- Review blueprints or specifications to determine work requirements.
- Mark reference points on construction materials.
- Measure materials or objects for installation or assembly.
- Cut wood components for installation.
- Install wooden structural components.
- Assist in docking and undocking of vessels.
- Troubleshoot problems with all equipment as it arises.
- Proper storage of equipment.
- Diagnose and solve problems of all kinds.
- May be assigned miscellaneous tasks outside craft as required.
- Attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Ability and willingness to engage in highly energetic pursuits on the waterfront.

Physical Job Demand: - Occasionally utilize an English wrench by lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling 30lbs in a standing and squatting position for up to 150' and placing at 36" high.
- Occasionally barring a block by lifting, carrying and pushing a 15lb bar in a walking position up to 50' then inserting it at the bottom of the block and pushing with 110lbs of force at 36" high.
- Occasionally bring reels of air hose or rope from pump house and place on stand by lifting and carrying 25lbs in a walking and squatting position 50' and placing on a bar at 40" high.
- Occasionally pulling rope on sweep by pulling 30lbs of force while standing and reaching in a hand over hand fashion.
- Occasionally carrying rope to utilize in docking boats by lifting and carrying 50lbs in a walking positon 100' and placing on the ground.
- Occasionally utilize an impact wrench to build or maintain wood blocks by lifting and carrying 25lbs in a walking position up to 50' and placing at 57" high.
- Occasionally utilize a sledge hammer by lifting and carrying 10lbs in a walking position up to 50' utilizing in an underhand fashion at 33".
- Occasionally manipulate small parts for install or repair by utilizing fine motor skills (i.e. gripping and pinching) in a walking, bending, and reaching at a low level.

Minimum Qualifications: - Minimum of 1 years' experience preferred
- Knowledge of materials and methods involved in construction
- A self-starter who can work with minimal supervision on an 8 for 8 basis
- Ability to work in inclement weather
Desired Qualifications: - 3+ years of experience preferred
- Prior shipyard experience a plus
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
