QUALIFICATIONS Required : AHA BLS certification by end of month from 60 days of hire and maintained; 1 year of full time experience in clinical Echo ultrasound; OBMI License required; RDCS and RCS required within 6 months of hire; and Maintains status by obtaining 30 hours of continuing education every 3 years. Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred : Associates or BS in Echocardiography, Pediatric Echo Certification.
Lic/Reg/Cert : State License from OBMI, RDCS or RCS.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS Medium to very heavy physical demand level capabilities required. Must be able to work independently as well as with Physicians, coworkers and to provide service to patients of all age groups. Must be able to take 24 hour stand-by.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - The cardiac sonographer is expected to work independently performing a variety of echocardiography procedures for use in the diagnosis of heart disease/disorders. Adheres the Echocardiography diagnostic procedures, precautions and standards.
- Independently performs TTE's and assist the physician in TEE's, as well as perform cardiac stress echos, both exercise and pharmaceutical. Assists with various contrast studies to enhance images in all types of studies.
- Provides direct patient care, including assessing patient condition and ability to cooperate. Proper use of equipment and positioning the patient for procedures.
- Maintains accurate records and files. Ensures integrity of patient medical images and data while adhering to HIPAA and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
- Prepares rooms, equipment and patients for subsequent Echo procedures.
- Maintains competency in all exams and procedures performed at Sky Lakes Medical Center, including manual NIBP, pertinent measurements and identification of the different structures of the heart, as well as abnormal anatomy and physiology.
- Understands and is able to utilize the current EMR and Echo PACS systems.Must participate in a revolving call schedule.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS - May be responsible for specific areas of instruction and supervision of students in the OIT Echocardiography program, as well as other students and ancillary personnel.
