About the opportunity:

The Assistant Operations Manager will be responsible for the smooth day to day operations of our market in Niagara Falls, Canada, while also supporting our Market in Niagara Falls, USA. Occasional travel to the USA may be required. This role is the face of our company, working on the ground, outdoors, rain or shine. During peak season, weekends are required. Your primary responsibilities include hiring and training guides and coordinators, ensuring smooth tour departures, resolving guest complaints on the ground, and assisting in product development. The ideal candidate has prior experience in training, coaching and/or managing people (travel sector is an advantage).


Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily tour check ins and departures, being the local expert and main contact for emergencies and support on site.
  • Support tour coordination’s; printing or collecting tickets, checking guests in, resolving issues at the start of each tour, and completing reports on what took place.
  • Responsible for the recruitment and onboarding of coordinators as well as the coordinator scheduling and task distribution for optimal staffing.
  • Lead and engage the Coordinator team, providing training, communications, support, evaluations, quality assurance, and event planning.
  • Support the ongoing training and development of our guide team through regular tour evaluations.
  • Be the first responder for major disruptions on the ground and works closely with Niagara in-destination team, guest experience team, guides, coordinators and central teams to find solutions for disruptions.
  • Assist the Tour Operations Manager in the day-to - day interactions with local suppliers, sites and venues.
  • Collaborate with central teams regarding scheduling, product development, & operational procedures.
  • Weekend work required during high season.


Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant field is required.
  • 2+ years of experience in a people management position, with a background in recruitment and training.
  • 2+ years of experience in Operations for Tourism, Events, or a similar industry.
  • Ability to remain calm and adapt to changing environments.
  • Excellent organizational skills (time management, priority management), leadership skills and people management skills.
  • Professionally efficient in all forms of communication, with experience providing a high level of customer service.
  • Proactive problem-solving ability and strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of the hospitality and tourism industry in Niagara Falls.
  • Strong technical skills and curiosity; the ability to learn multiple systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite, Asana, Slack is a bonus.
