Position Announcement - School Nurse About Sussex Montessori School: Sussex Montessori School was approved as a charter school by the Delaware Department of Education in April 2018. We currently serve students in grades K-6. The Sussex Montessori School Board believes that the creation of a Montessori public school in Sussex County, DE will improve student learning, allow for greater choice for parents, and serve as a model for alternative approaches to education by providing a proven and innovative teaching and learning environment.
The mission of Sussex Montessori School is to nurture the development of empathetic, collaborative, persistent and innovative global and community citizens in accordance with the time-tested philosophy of Maria Montessori, through authentic personalized learning experiences, respectful relationships, opportunities to innovate, and a focus on global citizenship.
The school is located in Seaford, Delaware, which is a diverse rural area with a thriving Hispanic population as well as growing Haitian community.
Summary of Position :
The School Nurse reports directly to the Director of Finance and Operations and the Head of School, and is responsible for providing a specialized nursing practice that advances the well-being and academic success of students. The School Nurse will also provide preventive and screening services, health education, and assistance with decision-making about health and immunization practices for Sussex Montessori School. Additionally, the School Nurse will help identify illnesses and disabilities and provide such services as case findings, health education, referrals and care.
Location: Seaford, Delaware
Duties: - Provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness.
- Contacting parents regarding wellness or injury concerns.
- Develop health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities.
- Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene
- Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings
- Manage and audit student medical files.
- Keep track of students' health records.
- Update students' medical history.
- Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff, including prevention of communicable diseases
- Ensure compliance with national and local health laws
- Participate in Individualized Education Plan or 504 Education Plan meetings as needed
- Create detailed substitute nurse plans.
- Collaborate with teachers regarding student health and wellness.
Required Qualifications: - Current Registered Nurse license recognized by the Delaware Board of Nursing
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher required from a regionally accredited college or university
- 3-5 years of supervised clinical nursing experience
- Valid and Current CPR / AED Certification
- Demonstrated understanding of diversity, educational equity, and multicultural education
Pre ferred Qualifications: - Prior school nurse experience
- Prior pediatric care experience
- Knowledge of eSchool
- Fluent in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole
