Position Goals: The School Nurse plays a critical role in preventing illness, early detection of health issues, and improving the overall health of students. This position requires collaboration with school staff, families, and healthcare providers to support a safe and healthy educational environment.
Responsibilities of Kuumba Academy School Nurse include but Are Not Limited to: - Provide nursing care to both students and staff.
- Administer medication to students as requested by parents or physicians according to the medication administration protocol
- Maintain a daily log of all student and staff visits to the nurse's office, and record communications with parents, staff and community agencies.
- Ensure safe storage and accurate administration of medications.
- Maintain emergency information for students and staff
- Lead health initiatives to promote a safe school environment.
- Act as a liaison between school personnel, families, and community health providers.
- Develop individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic conditions or disabilities.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and healthcare providers to address student health concerns.
- Educate students on health-related topics, including hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal health regulations and school policies.
- Monitor immunization records and ensure compliance with vaccination requirements.
- Maintain open communication with teachers, administration, and behavioral health staff.
Qualifications and Experience: - Current RN license to practice in Delaware.
- Minimum of three years of experience as a registered nurse.
- Certification as required by the Department of Education.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited program.
- Strong knowledge of child health issues and school health policies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support student health needs.
- Previous experience in a school setting or with children.
Compensation: - Salary range for this position is based on the teacher salary scale and is commensurate with experience
