Job Summary:
The Purchasing Expediter is responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of materials and supplies essential for manufacturing operations. This role involves coordinating with suppliers, monitoring purchase orders, and addressing issues that may cause delays. The position works closely with the Purchasing, Production, and Inventory teams to maintain optimal supply levels and support uninterrupted production.
Key Responsibilities:
Order Management:
- Monitor and track the status of purchase orders from initiation to delivery.
- Follow up with suppliers to confirm delivery schedules and expedite orders as needed.
- Communicate changes in order status to relevant departments.
Supplier Coordination:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure timely responses and cooperation.
- Address supplier-related issues that may impact delivery timelines or quality.
Problem Resolution:
- Identify and resolve discrepancies between purchase orders and received materials.
- Manage and resolve delivery issues, such as late shipments or damaged goods.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of order statuses, communications, and issues encountered.
- Prepare regular reports on order progress and potential supply chain disruptions.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Purchasing, Production, and Inventory teams to ensure alignment on material requirements and delivery schedules.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to address urgent material needs or changes in production schedules.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to enhance the expediting process and supplier performance.
- Participate in supplier performance reviews and contribute to supplier development initiatives.
Vendor Auditing:
- Conduct onsite visits to verify that suppliers meet continuous quality requirements per AVL standards.
- Identify and report non-conformances, issue corrective actions, and ensure implementation and resolution.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and familiarity with CSA W47.1 and W59 welding is preferred.
- Experience working with close tolerances and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Skilled in using measuring devices such as tape measures, verniers, and micrometers.
- Familiarity with fabrication, assembly drawings, and processes.
- Ability to identify electrical and mechanical components.
