Company

David creates tools to increase muscle and decrease fat. Our first product is a protein bar. More broadly, David is a platform to develop high-protein, low-calorie, blood-sugar-friendly foods that are craveable.


This is a compelling opportunity to join an exciting new food brand as we enter a critical growth stage. David is led by CEO Peter Rahal, the Cofounder and Former CEO of RXBAR ($600M exit to Kellogg in 2017). We have strong aspirations to become the most popular high-protein bar in North America and beyond.


Role and Responsibilities:


The Associate Food Scientist will play a key role in developing, testing, and optimizing our products. This role will be crucial in developing new product formats, continuously improving the existing portfolio, and developing new flavors/ line extensions.


You will spend most of your time in the lab, testing new formulations and processes, with the balance of your time spent researching new ingredients/methods and documenting your work. You will be creating nutrition facts panels, ingredient lists, batch mix instructions, and finished product specifications, as well as scaling up formulas from benchtop to production. There will also be ample travel to product manufacturing sites.


Responsibilities:

  • Product Development:
  • Conduct research and experiments to develop new food products and improve existing products.
  • Formulate and optimize product recipes and processes.
  • Evaluate product performance and sensory attributes.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure successful product launches.
  • Compliance:
  • Stay up-to-date on food safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Ensure all products meet food safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
  • Sensory Evaluation:
  • Conduct sensory evaluations to assess product flavor, texture, and appearance.
  • Analyze consumer feedback and preferences.
  • Perform laboratory experiments, including physical property measurements.


What you’ll bring:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in food science or a related field with a 2025 graduation.
  • A strong curiosity and desire to discover the latest food technologies that can enable the design of high-protein, low-calorie, blood-sugar-friendly foods that taste delicious.
  • A desire to challenge traditional methods and experiment.
  • High IQ/intellectual horsepower and accuracy.

Practicalities:

  • This is a full-time role.
  • Salary: $90-110k per year, inclusive of cash bonus based on attainment of company targets
