Intellectual Property Patent Prosecution Associate

Location : New York

Salary: $210,000 - $250,000


Our client a leading law firm is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Patent Prosecution Associate to join their New York team. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in patent prosecution, including patent application drafting, leading inventor meetings, and developing strategic patent portfolios. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and innovations in a dynamic legal environment. Please note this role is looking for dual expertise in life science and computer science. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s in either life or computer science and then an advanced degree of some sort in the other (Master’s or PhD).


Key Responsibilities :


  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in a variety of technologies.
  • Lead inventor meetings and communicate with clients to gather critical technical details.
  • Develop and implement patent strategy to maximize client protection and market opportunities.
  • Manage patent portfolios and provide strategic counsel on IP matters.
  • Stay up-to-date with patent laws and regulations, particularly related to the USPTO.


Qualifications :


  • Juris Doctorate (JD) required.
  • Undergraduate or advanced degrees (MS or PhD) in Computer Science or Life Sciences (Chemistry or Biology) are required.
  • Must be licensed to practice in NY State.
  • USPTO registration required.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :


  • Strong academic record with a demonstrated ability to think critically and solve complex legal issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients and technical teams.
  • Experience in patent preparation and prosecution is required.
  • Knowledge and experience working with inventions related to computer science or life sciences (chemistry or biology).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
