About the Job :
The HV OR MV Project Engineer will play a critical role in utility-scale solar and storage projects, from conceptual design and optimization through construction and commissioning. This role focuses on high-voltage OR medium-voltage electrical engineering, including the development and review of designs, evaluation of equipment, compliance with standards, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
Responsibilities :
- Design and review electrical layouts for substations, switchyards, and transmission lines (up to 500kV).
- Ensure compliance with utility, regulatory, and industry standards throughout the design, procurement, and construction process.
- Develop and manage Specifications & Scopes of Work for high-voltage equipment and systems.
- Manage consultants and vendors for HV equipment (e.g., breakers, switchgear, transformers), including reviewing deliverables and preparing technical specifications.
- Lead value-engineering efforts to optimize high-voltage designs and equipment selection.
- Support solar and storage project designs, layouts, and production models using tools like AutoCAD, PVsyst, NREL SAM, and GIS.
- Create and review internal conceptual layouts and general assembly drawings for interconnection, permitting, sales, and construction purposes.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to evaluate and select electrical equipment and vendors.
- Provide technical input for project sales proposals and permitting applications.
- Consolidate interdisciplinary insights into financially optimized project designs and strategies.
- Lead internal process improvement initiatives related to HV electrical engineering and cross-disciplinary solar/storage processes.
- Travel to project sites to support evaluations, design implementation, and construction activities.
Qualifications :
- 2-5+ years of experience in utility-scale solar electrical engineering with a focus on HV or MV equipment and design optimization.
- Strong knowledge of inverters, transformers, and DC electrical equipment.
- Familiarity with applicable codes, design standards, and interconnection requirements.
- Experience managing relationships with vendors, consultants, and external engineering firms.
- Proficiency in tools such as PVsyst, AutoCAD, NREL SAM, ETAP, and GIS is a plus.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field; advanced technical proficiency preferred.
