Lead Software Engineer


We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to support senior engineering staff by conducting research, and designing, developing, and testing software components for Department of Defense (DOD) navigation equipment and systems.


Position Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Independently formulate and design software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of designs.
  • Develop and direct software system testing procedures, programming, and documentation.
  • Consult with clients to gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements.
  • Collaborate with customers regarding the maintenance of software systems.
  • Analyze, define, and document requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environments, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.
  • Assess and estimate feasibility, costs, time, and compatibility with hardware and other programs.
  • Develop and maintain plans outlining steps and timelines for program development, using experience and judgment.
  • Research and evaluate software and hardware to support development or utilization within a system.
  • Train end users or technical support staff on program usage.
  • Coordinate software system installation.
  • Evaluate the performance of junior staff and/or subordinates as needed.
  • Assist in the selection, training, and development of team members.
  • Lead and direct tasks assigned to junior personnel.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Experience: At least six (6) years of professional experience in software development using C, C++, C#, Java, or other object-oriented languages.
  • Demonstrated software development expertise under Unix, Linux, Windows, and/or VxWorks operating systems.
  • Experience interfacing with TCP/IP clients and servers.
  • Familiarity with project/work environments involving engineering support for electronic maintenance and modification systems, including the establishment of processes and guidelines for electronic design.
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted for a degree, depending on domain experience and contractual requirements.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: Six (6) years of experience in Computer Science or Engineering fields, including systems/equipment support and test and evaluation support of C4ISR requirements.
  • Three (3) years of technical experience in developing software applications using C, C++, C#, Java, assembly, or other compiled or real-time programming languages.
  • Expertise in developing embedded applications on real-time operating systems.
