The Legal Analyst is responsible for monitoring and analyzing regulatory developments, policies, and legislation specific to the cannabis and alcohol industries both the federal and state level. This role involves collaborating closely with the General Counsel, conducting research, providing insights, and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. To succeed in this role, the Legal Analyst needs to have experience in compliance issues and willing to dive into the cannabis and alcohol industries laws and regulations.
Reports to: General Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
- Stay updated on state and federal regulations governing the cannabis and alcohol industries with an ability to present new information to leadership.
- Analyze complex regulatory frameworks specific to state and federal regulations and provide concise summaries and reports to stakeholders.
- Conduct policy gap analysis at the federal and state level for regulations to identify areas of improvement, potential risks and make recommendations for policy enhancements.
- Review and summarize various contracts and policies to ensure up to date and concise for stakeholder review
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills in order to present data and findings to leadership and stakeholders as needed
- Assist in the development and implementation of compliance programs specific to Texas and other state regulations along with federal requirements to ensure adherence and provide guidance and support to internal teams.
- Conduct internal audits and reviews to assess compliance levels and identify corrective actions.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with various regulatory agencies, federal agencies, industry associations, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in meetings, conferences, and industry events specifically to stay informed of industry trends and regulatory developments.
- Act as a representative of the organization in interactions with regulatory authorities, federal agencies, and industry groups.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in pre-law, business, public policy, or a related field or work experience equivalent.
- Proven experience in compliance, or legal research, preferably in the cannabis or alcohol industry in Texas and/or at the national level.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Previous role or background in paralegal work a plus
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare clear and concise reports for the leadership team
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Experience in working on legal contracts for states outside of Texas a plus
- Excel expert a plus
