Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to join our educational team in Franklin County, Washington. This full-time contract position involves teaching 1st through 5th-grade students in a self-contained classroom setting. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that meets the unique needs of DHH students.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver individualized lesson plans to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of DHH students.
- Use American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modalities to instruct and engage students.
- Collaborate with parents, general education teachers, and support staff to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Monitor student progress and provide regular updates to families and school administrators.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student confidence and independence.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in deaf education.
Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with a DHH endorsement (or ability to obtain one).
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
- Previous experience working with DHH students is preferred.
