Job Title: Hardware Designer – Technical Specialist
Job Description:
To produce application designs and equipment designs that meet requirements utilizing processes based on established engineering principles. Involved with complex and difficult designs.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Skills
· Demonstrating a high degree of initiative, and resourcefulness in solving problems.
· Demonstrating an advanced level of logical reasoning resulting in effective hardware application designs, products and processes.
· Interpreting and the ability to write Requirements.
· Preparing specifications for hardware and/or software components.
· Proficient with the use of development tools, CAD packages (Microstation, AutoCAD)
· Selecting an appropriate design approach
· Maximizing use of existing design.
· In possession or previously possessed CMS Designer or Principles License
Management Skills
· When required, lead a small team of designers (1 or 5 Designers)
· Manage assigned tasks, schedule and budget.
· Keeping track of progress on all tasks assigned to the team,
· Ensuring that all tasks proceed according to schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirements
· Verify that all assigned work has been completed accurately and on time.
· Carry out all assigned work efficiently, with a minimum of supervision.
· Generating accurate, supportable estimates for current departmental technology and providing estimates for technologies that are new to the department.
· Knowledge of Chorus process is an asset
Communication Skills
· Well developed verbal skills to interact effectively and professionally in a variety of forums,
· Well developed writing skills to prepare clear effective documents.
· Good interpersonal and diplomatic skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization, and the customer.

· Locating and researching source documentation for design activities.

Key Requirements:
· Post secondary Technologist diploma or Electrical Engineering degree
· 8 – 12 years related work experience
· Computer literate with knowledge of CAD tools (Microstation, AutoCad), Bills of Materials, (SAP), Configuration Management, (Clearquest), and Microsoft Office suite.
· Good interpersonal and technical writing skill
