Construction Coordinator – Excavation & SOE


Reports to: Construction Manager

Webuild has won a new contract to deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line and we are currently seeking a Construction Coordinator – Excavation & SOE


This position is a full-time 100% onsite position at our downtown office.


Position Summary:

The Construction Coordinator will oversee all excavation activities and Support of Excavation (SOE) tasks, ensuring the successful delivery of transit infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have expertise in second piles, struts, steel cables, and concrete placement, with proven experience managing multiple subcontractors simultaneously.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate excavation and SOE activities, including second piles, strut installation, and wall support to prevent inclination or collapse.
  • Oversee the placement of steel cables and concrete to reinforce excavation structures.
  • Manage several subcontractors simultaneously to ensure seamless execution of tasks within scope and schedule.
  • Initiate procurement requests and coordinate with the procurement department to establish agreements and supply chains for excavation and SOE activities. Prepare scopes of work and send them to the procurement team.
  • Provide overall contract administration, technical expertise, and support for excavation and SOE-related activities.
  • Track progress billing, cost reports, inventory, and subcontractor quantity metrics.
  • Negotiate and issue subcontracts, major purchase orders, and progress payments, while monitoring progress and schedules for assigned subcontractors.
  • Ensure subcontractor adherence to contract documents, including technical specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage risks and opportunities associated with the scope of assigned subcontractors.
  • Compile and analyze production, labor, and machinery reports to maintain effective work control.
  • Monitor design progress to ensure compliance, quality, coordination, and timely deliverables.
  • Prepare work plans and staging drawings for assigned scope and track documentation for construction permits.


What You Will Bring:

  • Experience: 5+ years in technical engineering roles within large transit infrastructure or construction projects, with specific expertise in excavation, SOE, second piles, and strut installation.
  • Education: Civil engineering degree or a related degree is required.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors and work streams effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario construction standards and permitting processes.
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Microsoft Project and Gantt chart planning.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in fostering collaborative relationships with clients and internal teams.
  • Problem-solving and prioritization skills, with the ability to address issues proactively.
