Our client has an exceptional pipeline of major projects over the coming years. They are excited to bring a skilled professional on board who will play a vital role in estimating, supporting project management, and ensuring the success of various mechanical projects. The Estimator will work in tandem with Project Managers to deliver accurate cost estimates, track project progress, and provide key technical support.

Estimator responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the preparation of tender documents, pre-construction cost projections, and project timelines for review by the Project Manager
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, subcontractors, and equipment based on project bids, drawings, specifications, and supplier quotes
  • Conduct thorough quantity surveys, apply unit pricing, and determine costs for general project conditions, overhead, and proposal terms
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers to strategize on bid submissions and project approaches
  • Guide and mentor junior team members in the preparation and revision of cost estimates
  • Analyze project drawings and blueprints to assess material needs and project scope
  • Accurately calculate quantities of materials and supplies required for project specifications
  • Ensure the accuracy of take-offs by reviewing for technical and mathematical precision
  • Source and collect quotes from suppliers for required materials and equipment
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings to clarify project details and ensure alignment
  • Finalize estimates by factoring in overhead costs and profit margins
  • Present comprehensive bid packages to clients, adhering to project specifications and requirements
  • Integrate addendums into tenders and revise estimates as necessary
  • Monitor actual costs during project execution and compare with estimates, suggesting potential improvements in cost management
  • Handle other responsibilities as necessary

The successful candidate has:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role, with a proven ability to deliver accurate and timely estimates.
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma, or Journeyperson Certification in the Mechanical field
  • In-depth knowledge of the local construction industry and associated documentation
  • Strong understanding of mechanical construction systems and processes
  • Excellent problem-solving, mathematical, and analytical capabilities
  • A high attention to detail with a focus on precision and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Familiarity with construction estimating software such as Accubid, Quickpen, or Procore is a plus

Compensation and benefits:

  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive benefits plan
  • RRSP matching
  • Continuous professional development and training resources
  • Collaborative work environment

Only candidates already eligible to work in Canada will be reviewed. Only qualified candidates will be contacted.
