Job Title: Senior Project Engineer – Electrical
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Software to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, testing, and commissioning of electrical and software systems for overhead cranes and hoists, with a focus on Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in PLC programming, HMI design, electrical schematics, and troubleshooting within industrial and nuclear environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead electrical/software engineering activities on-site, providing technical direction and supervision to engineers, technicians, and other workers.
- Collaborate with project managers to define work requirements, track project progress, and ensure customer acceptance milestones are met.
- Design, troubleshoot, and modify PLC programs and HMI applications (Rockwell, Siemens) to automate crane systems and meet project specifications.
- Review and mark up electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and layout drawings, ensuring accurate and up-to-date “as-built” documentation.
- Perform electrical calculations for wire sizing, drive systems, braking resistors, transformers, and other components, ensuring compliance with customer specifications and electrical codes (up to 4160 volts AC and 800 volts DC).
- Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), addressing issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams to define and implement solutions.
- Maintain excellent customer relations, offering timely, solution-oriented support during field startup and commissioning activities.
- Provide input for design improvements, collaborating with the engineering team to enhance functionality and reduce costs.
- Support fieldwork, including site visits and commissioning activities, which may require climbing ladders up to 50 feet.
- Travel 20% to 40% of the time for domestic and international project needs, including extended stays at nuclear and government facilities.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET), or a related field.
- Experience: 5 to 10 years of experience in electrical engineering, particularly with field startups, PLC and HMI programming, and VFD setup. Experience with Rockwell PLC/HMI, Siemens PLC/HMI, and Magnetek/Siemens VFDs is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of the NEC (National Electrical Code) and its application in industrial environments.
- Proven ability to lead and work collaboratively with teams to ensure project success.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interface with customers, project managers, and other stakeholders effectively.
- Willingness to travel extensively (domestic and international), including extended field service durations (1-2 months) and work at remote facilities.
