Walker Elliott is working with our client to source for a Maintenance Engineer for its North Carolina plant to provide technical support for all plant maintenance activities. This role will primarily interface with hourly maintenance employees, salaried maintenance planners and foremen, and contracted maintenance resources, as well as interact with operations personnel.
The position requires understanding of best industry practices regarding maintenance activities and work processes, general and detailed knowledge of rotating and stationary equipment categories, repair practices, and industry codes.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Support and Analysis
- Provide engineering support for preventive maintenance (PM) and repair activities for critical plant equipment, including fixed assets and rotating machinery
- Analyze failed equipment to determine and eliminate root causes
- Focus primarily on rotating equipment maintenance and troubleshooting to support operating unit's business goals
- Oversee equipment lubrication program and develop vendor goals for continuous improvement
Maintenance Execution and Documentation
- Advise on proper execution and documentation of repair and PM activities for both rotating and fixed assets
- Support job plans, shop documentation, and procedures where necessary
- Perform safety and work quality audits of hourly employees executing maintenance activities
- Develop and maintain job plans for specific repair activities
- Create, maintain, and update maintenance documentation for critical plant equipment
Technical Support and Collaboration
- Identify and interface with preferred equipment manufacturers, specialists, and technical support consultants
- Support site Maintenance Department planners and foremen as required
- Provide first-line technical support to maintenance foremen and operating personnel for stationary and rotating equipment maintenance and reliability issues
- Assist with equipment performance troubleshooting, supplying technical expertise to operations and leadership to mechanical maintenance resources
Program Ownership
- Take ownership of the site vibration program, including training new technicians, analyzing and providing balance corrections for rotating equipment, and participating in the corporation's Rotating Equipment Team
- Administer maintenance processes and budget, monitor performance indicators, and assist in or execute small projects
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ years of industrial plant maintenance and/or reliability engineering experience
- 10+ years of chemical/petrochemical plant maintenance and/or reliability engineering experience preferred
- 1+ years of Vibration Analysis experience
- 1+ years of Lubrication program experience
Technical Skills
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with CMMS work management systems
- Working knowledge of drafting and project planning software (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio, MS Project, Primavera)
- Knowledge of Bentley Nevada vibration monitoring systems or equivalent
- - Piping design and API codes and standards for piping
Expertise
- Well-rounded field experience applying maintenance engineering principles to mechanical repair work for various process plant equipment
- Knowledge of mechanical machinery design, selection, repair techniques, and performance assessment
- Understanding of engineering materials chemical compatibility and application related to plant equipment reliability
- Practical experience facilitating Root Cause Failure Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
- Turbo machinery expertise, with ownership of turbo machinery inspection/overhaul program
Leadership and Communication
- Experience in a leadership role (temporary or interim assignment acceptable)
- Excellent organizational, planning, and verbal/written communication skills
- Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual with proven success working independently and in a multi-functional team environment
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and practical experience in industrial plant maintenance and reliability engineering. They will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective maintenance of critical plant equipment while continuously improving processes and supporting the corporation's operational goals.
