Job Description

CMM Inspector – Aerospace Manufacturing

Location: Valencia, Ca

Department: Quality Assurance

Reports To: Quality Control Manager

The CMM Inspector will operate and program Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to ensure aerospace components meet strict dimensional and quality standards. This role involves measuring parts according to engineering specifications, using CMM software (e.g., PC-DMIS) to perform precise 3D inspections on a variety of aerospace components. The inspector will document results, identify non-conformities, and collaborate with engineering and production teams to address quality issues.

Responsibilities also include maintaining equipment calibration, adhering to aerospace industry standards (AS9100, NADCAP), and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience in aerospace manufacturing, proficiency in CMM programming, and a strong understanding of GD&T.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and program CMM machines (both manual and automated) to measure parts per engineering specifications, blueprints, and CAD models.
  • Perform inspections on a wide range of aerospace components (e.g., airframes, engines, control systems, etc.) to ensure they meet the dimensional, tolerance, and quality requirements.
  • Accurately record measurement data and document inspection results. Provide detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders, including identifying non-conformities and deviations.
  • Perform 3D measurements using CMM to check part geometry, surface finishes, and other critical dimensions. Utilize probing, scanning, and optical techniques as required.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance teams to resolve issues related to product quality, dimensional discrepancies, or non-conformances. Perform root cause analysis and suggest corrective actions.
  • Ensure the CMM equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and operational. Perform routine checks to verify machine accuracy and troubleshoot any equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain and organize inspection records and ensure compliance with industry standards, such as AS9100, NADCAP, and FAA regulations. Help prepare for audits and certifications as required.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of CMM inspection processes, tooling, and fixtures. Suggest and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (Associate's or Bachelor’s preferred).
  • 3+ years of CMM inspection experience, ideally in aerospace.
  • Proficiency in CMM programming (PC-DMIS, Calypso, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of aerospace standards and GD&T.
