Job Overview:
The Contract Plant Operator will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the facility within a SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) environment. The operator will work closely with the team to meet production targets, implement operational improvements, and maintain a focus on safety and quality. This role requires hands-on experience with facility operations, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to mentor new team members while upholding core values and safety commitments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations & Maintenance:
- Operate and monitor equipment in the facility, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting issues to meet production goals.
- Perform condition monitoring, including sampling and testing as required by operational protocols, documenting results, and taking corrective action where necessary.
- Conduct operational rounds and ensure accurate electronic log entries, detailing actions taken during the shift.
- Prepare equipment for maintenance tasks using Lock-Out, Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and assist in scheduled maintenance activities.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Participate in walkarounds, informal LOTO and HSE safety audits to ensure safe work practices are followed.
- Adhere to all company policies and safety protocols, contributing to a safety-focused culture on-site.
- Support safety meetings, conduct handovers with the incoming/outgoing team, and contribute to ongoing safety improvements.
- Team Collaboration & Mentoring:
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training to new employees, assisting them in understanding processes and safety standards.
- Actively participate in team discussions to share knowledge and improve operational practices.
- Housekeeping & Documentation:
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, completing housekeeping activities as required.
- Document activities accurately and ensure compliance with operational standards and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Mandatory:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Minimum 1-3 years of operational experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Minimum 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate.
- Ability to perform essential duties, troubleshoot, and operate equipment within the SAGD facility environment.
- Preferred:
- 3-5 years of relevant operating experience.
- Previous experience in a SAGD operation.
- 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate or higher.
- Familiarity with LOTO procedures, condition monitoring, and safety auditing practices.
- Additional Requirements:
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Successful completion of pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
- Ability to work in a safety-sensitive role and maintain a proactive approach to health and safety.

- This position is based at the Foster Creek site, with accommodation and transportation options provided for remote work conditions.
- The role will require flexibility to work both day and night shifts on a rotating basis.
