Job Summary
We are looking for individual to join our client’s team as Infection Preventionist. You will be responsible for overseeing infection prevention and control efforts throughout the facility. This includes the implementation and monitoring of infection prevention strategies, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and governmental health standards, and educating staff on infection control protocols.
Job Description
- Work with IPC department to oversee and control in all units and departments that comprise this hospital.
- Review patient charts for evidence of healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) and apply National Healthcare Safely Network (NHSN) definitions to identify and report HAIs through the use electronic surveillance system.
- Assist with investigations of clusters of infections, outbreaks, and unusual infections or exposures.
- Review daily microbiology and virology reports for culture results that may represent multi-drug-resistant organisms, transmissible diseases or HAIs. They will use these results to identify and place patients on the appropriate category of precautions.
- They will be assigned surveillance activities to identify central line-associated blood stream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, ventilator-associated pneumonias and surgical site infections.
- Perform infection prevention rounds on assigned units to ensure a safe environment of care.
Skills Required
- EPIC experience required
- Conducts ongoing infection control surveillance, prevention and control program activities
- Collects, tabulates, analyzes and interprets infection data and records.
- Communicates via email and EPIC secure chat.
- SOFTWARE: EPIC Bugsy, NHSN, NYCDOH, NORA, HERDS, Excel, Word.
Education/Training/Certifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing or a related discipline, and four (4) years of satisfactory clinical experience or experience working in infection prevention and control, health care epidemiology or a related field in a hospital or a health care setting, preferred, or;
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing or a related discipline, and five (5) years of satisfactory experience working in infection prevention and control, health care epidemiology or a related field in a hospital or a health care setting, preferred.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
