Position Summary: The Utility Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and successful completion of large-scale fiber optic network projects, specifically focusing on constructing long haul routes. This role involves managing all aspects of the project including scope, material, labor schedules, budget, and stakeholder communications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning and Execution:
- Project Manager: Develop detailed project plans, including scope, schedule, and budget. Coordinate and oversee project execution to ensure adherence to plans and standards.
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Project Manager: Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure projects stay within financial constraints. Direct and coordinate with field staff to allocate and manage resources effectively.
- Stakeholder Communication:
- Project Manager: Act as the main point of contact for internal project stakeholders, providing regular updates on progress, risks, and issues. Facilitate communication between internal teams and external contractors. Schedule and lead update meetings to identify project issues and risks.
- Quality Control and Compliance:
- Project Manager: Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. Coordinate and lead inspections and resolve quality issues.
- Risk Management:
- Project Manager: Identify potential project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and address issues as they arise to minimize impact on project goals.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Project Manager: Assemble and lead project teams, providing direction, support, and motivation. Ensure team members are clear on their roles and responsibilities.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Project Manager: Maintain accurate project documentation, including plans, reports, and change orders. Prepare and present project status reports.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Project Manager: Preferred - Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP) are a plus.
- Experience:
- Project Manager: 3-7 years of experience in project management, or 10+ years in field construction, with a focus on large-scale telecommunications, fiber optic, or utility projects. Experience managing outside utility construction preferred.
- Skills:
- Project Manager: Strong project management and organizational skills. Proficiency in project management software and tools. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
Work Environment: This role will involve periodic site visits to construction locations, which may include various weather conditions and working on-site. Flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate project timelines and stakeholder needs.
