Chief Chemist (Belleville, Ontario)
Our client, a very well established manufacturing company, is seeking a skilled and innovative Chief Chemist to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, formulation, testing, and improvement of rubber compounds to meet specific product and industry requirements. This role requires a deep understanding of polymer chemistry, material science, and processing techniques.

Key Responsibilities
• Rubber Compound Development: Design and develop new rubber formulations tailored to meet customer specifications, performance standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Material Testing & Analysis: Conduct physical, chemical, and mechanical testing of rubber compounds, including tensile strength, elongation, hardness, and aging properties.
• Process Optimization: Collaborate with production teams to optimize mixing, curing, and processing parameters for efficient manufacturing and product consistency.
• Research & Innovation: Stay updated on advancements in rubber technology and materials to introduce innovative solutions and improve existing formulations.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure all compounds and processes comply with environmental and safety regulations, including REACH and RoHS, and standards.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of formulations, test results, and processes. Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Problem Solving: Troubleshoot issues in production or with finished products and recommend corrective actions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, quality assurance, and customer service teams to deliver high-quality products.

• Responsible for Non-Conformance on physical properties
• ASTM Member
• Reporting Carbon Tax, NPRI
• Supporting Operation Managers
• Responsible for NCR, Change Notice, Corrective Action administration
• Internal Auditing
• Maintain Quality documentation
• Creating specs for raw material
R&D
• Responsible for administering projects
• Responsible for qualify project to SRED
• Managing R&D work card
• Research of new material for new or alternative ingredients
• Prepare documentation for R&D trials
• Support production of R&D trials
• Evaluate & communicate R&D results
Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry or a related field.
• Specialization in rubber chemistry or elastomer technology is preferred.
Experience:
• 3 years of experience in rubber formulation and processing in a manufacturing, or research, Environment:
• Experience with natural rubber, synthetic rubbers (e.g., EPDM, SBR, NBR
Skills:
• Strong knowledge of rubber compounding, vulcanization, and reinforcement techniques.
• Familiarity with ASTM and ISO standards related to rubber.
• Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
