Job Title: GIS Analyst

Position Overview:
As a GIS Analyst, you will play a critical technical role in developing, maintaining, and ensuring the quality of geospatial datasets essential to Norfolk Southern’s business partners, strategic corporate initiatives, and Engineering requirements. Using Engineering GIS data, you will respond to inquiries, refine geospatial information, and provide comprehensive GIS services across the organization. Your work will include routine inventory analyses to deliver key metrics such as feature counts, mileage, and spatial measurements for Norfolk Southern’s network.
A primary focus of the role includes preparing and assembling geospatial data to support Positive Train Control (PTC) Subdivision Files and broader Enterprise GIS initiatives. This position requires strong geographic knowledge of the Norfolk Southern rail network, proficiency in interpreting track geometries, and familiarity with Engineering Department sub-groups’ installation and maintenance activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Independently create, modify, and perform quality assurance on critical geospatial infrastructure datasets for high-priority applications, including PTC compliance data preparation.
- Apply railroad industry knowledge to accurately convert field-collected spatial data from multiple sources into a standards-compliant digital rail network adhering to database schemas and data models.
- Conduct quality control reviews, approve, and integrate geospatial data updates from CADD technicians within the Geospatial Data Group.
- Use advanced GIS software tools for topology corrections, geometric refinements, and other data quality improvements.
- Collaborate with internal teams and departments to enhance the technical capabilities of the Geospatial Data Group in support of Enterprise GIS objectives.
- Assist the Senior Geospatial Data Analyst with various GIS-related tasks as needed.
- Leverage GIS investments to deliver measurable value, identify cost-saving opportunities, and drive continuous improvement through geospatial technologies.

Education Requirements:
