Job Summary
The Plant Engineer leads the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of all facility systems, including building infrastructure and utilities. This role collaborates with Production and Distribution Center managers to implement systems and processes that enhance site operations' efficiency and effectiveness. As a key member of the Operations leadership team, the Plant Engineer contributes to achieving the company’s overall goals and objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
To excel in this role, the individual must successfully perform the following responsibilities.
Leadership & Oversight:
- Manage the Maintenance, Facilities, Setup, and CNC departments and oversee current and future buildings.
- Lead and develop team members, supporting their professional growth within the company.
Plant Engineering Execution:
- Oversee site engineering activities, including site master planning, automation, capital projects, and equipment commissioning/validation.
- Manage external engineering firms and vendors to ensure the successful execution of equipment, facility, and utility upgrades or expansions.
Employee Engagement:
- Recruit, motivate, and develop a high-performing team while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
System Optimization & Maintenance:
- Establish and maintain an advanced preventative maintenance program with performance metrics to achieve optimal equipment efficiency.
- Ensure facility systems and equipment support daily manufacturing and laboratory activities efficiently.
Process Improvement:
- Develop and improve engineering and maintenance procedures, providing training to personnel to promote continuous improvement and compliance.
- Support cost-reduction initiatives, ensuring timely project completion with measurable savings.
Vendor & Contract Management:
- Review and negotiate contracts with third-party contractors and equipment manufacturers to protect the company's interests.
- Collaborate with the legal team to ensure contract terms are accurate and compliant.
Regulatory & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure facilities and equipment comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including cGMP, FDA, OSHA, and EPA standards.
- Uphold Environmental, Health & Safety program, security protocols, and quality standards.
Budget Management:
- Manage engineering and site capital project budgets efficiently to meet financial goals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical preferred); Master’s degree is a plus.
- 15+ years in manufacturing-based industries with experience in Engineering, Maintenance, Facilities, and Plant Operations.
- Preferred experience in the medical device industry, with FDA and ISO 13485 compliance.

- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for internal and external audiences.

- Expertise in engineering tools such as CAD/CAM and CMMS software.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.
